Park Brake Piston Travel Check & Adjustment Procedure

1. Secure the Machine

Park the combine on a level surface. Block the wheels securely to prevent any movement.

2. Prepare the Header

Raise the header and engage the header safety latch. Shut off the engine.

3. Access the Brake Shaft

Remove the guard from the end of the parking brake shaft.

4. Measure Initial Shaft Protrusion

Measure and record the brake shaft protrusion distance.

5. Manually Release the Parking Brake

Release the parking brake manually. Refer to the “Manually Releasing Parking Brake” section of the service manual.

6. Measure Released Shaft Protrusion

Measure and record the shaft protrusion again.

7. Determine Piston Travel

Calculate the difference between the two measurements.
This value is the piston travel.

Required piston travel: 1/8 in. to 3/16 in. (3–5 mm)

  • Less than 1/8 in.: Brake drag may occur.
  • More than 3/16 in.: Brake reaction time may be excessive.

8. Adjust Shim Quantity

Loosen bolts (2) and add or remove shims as necessary.

  • Each shim changes travel by approximately 5/64 in.
  • Store any removed shim under bolts (2) for future adjustment.

9. Recheck Travel

Repeat steps 4 through 6 to confirm the piston travel is within specification.
