Autel IM608 — Toyota All Keys Lost: “ECU Version Not Supported” (Fix)

Problem

Attempting an All Keys Lost procedure on a 2023 Toyota C‑HR (smart key system) using an Autel IM608 and an APB112 emulator fails during OBD immobilizer backup.

The IM608 displays:

“The current smart main ECU software version number is not supported.”

In short: the IM608 cannot create an OBD backup of the vehicle’s immobilizer (immo) data for this smart main ECU software version.

What this means

Autel’s supported OBD backup routines don’t cover this particular smart main ECU software version. Without a successful backup you can’t use the usual APB112 flow to generate a working analog key, and key programming via the IM608 is blocked.

Two practical solutions

Option A — Back up the immo data (if allowed)

  1. Run the IM608 Back up immo data function. If it completes successfully, export the backup file.
  2. Use the APB112 emulator with the exported immo file to generate an analog key.
  3. Use that analog key to add a standard smart key to the vehicle.

Notes:

  • This is the preferred route when the IM608 will complete the OBD backup despite the warning.
  • If you do OBD work without a bypass power cable you may also need the vehicle’s 12‑digit immobilizer PIN from a third party to finish programming.

Option B — Smart box reset (if your IM608 supports it)

  1. Use IM608’s Smart box reset to clear and reinitialize the smart box (immobilizer module).
  2. After the module is reset to factory/blank state, add new smart keys directly — no APB112 required.

Important: IM608 units sold in the USA often do not include the Smart box reset function. Check your device menu — if the function is missing, you cannot take this path with that IM608.

Quick troubleshooting checklist

  • Error = IM608 cannot back up immo data for this smart box software version via OBD.
  • Check Back up immo data — if successful, use APB112 to generate analog key.
  • Check Smart box reset — if available, reset the module and add keys without APB112.
  • If your IM608 lacks both options, try Abrites or get the 12‑digit PIN.
